Guava (Psidium guajava L.), the ‘Apple of the Tropics’ is an
important fruit crop of the subtropical and tropical regions of the
world. India is the world’s leading producer of guava fruit with an
annual production of 3.7million metric tons in 2014 (http://nhb.
gov.in/area%20_production.htmL). Guava is highly nutritious and
contains high amounts of vitamins A, B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin)
and C (Ascorbic acid). The vitamin C content of guava fruit is 2–
5 times more than that of citrus fruit (Singh, 2005). The ripened
fruit are also rich in pectin that provides high soluble and insoluble
fibre content in the diet. Despite its high nutritive value, world
trade of guava fruit is limited due to its delicate nature and short
