Itwasabout3.00 p.m. on Saturdayafternoon when
the accident happened. I pulled up at the traffic lights
half way down Hamilton Avenue and waited for them
to turn to green.
I wasn't really paying much attention to what was
going on outside because I was trying to calm my two
children down. They were fighting in the back seat
and I couldn't concentrate. Suddenly, however, a blue
Volkswagon Beetle screeched round the corner and
smashed right into us. lt pushed my car right onto the
pavement because it was going so fast. There were
two young boys in the car and when I got out to see
if they were all right I could smell that they had been
drinking, and there were beer cans all over the floor.
When I saw the driver trying to starl the engine I
quicklytook the car keys out of the ignition so thatthey
couldn't drive away.
Luckily someone saw what had happened and
called the police, who soon arrived. No one was hurt,
but it could have been much more serious if we hadn't
all been wearing seatbelts.
