1.2 Research Design
Relying on different theories concerning the connection between learning motivation and specially designed
learning environments, our research aimed at analysing a concrete test case. We wanted to test the extent of
influence of a new environment on academic success and motivation through responses to questionnaires
completed by students. It should be noted that success in learning depends on a large number of variables:
socio-economic status of the learner, internal motivation, and the design of the learning environment. Several
studies have demonstrated that the construction of a purpose-built learning environment influences attention,
motivation for learning, and academic achievement. In our study we examined the influence on student learning
and motivation of a novel learning environment constructed by SES (Steelcase Educational Solutions).
