Although the current study adds to the growing literature examining factors that may account for well-established suicide risk factors and suicidal thoughts and behavior, there are limitations to this study that deserve comment and suggest areas for future research. First, our sample included a large sample of college students and it is unknown how these results would generalize to young adults who are not students, as well as to young people with documented psychiatric histories. Specifically, we had a relatively healthy college student sample and the average ideation, depression, and hopelessness scores were below clinical cutoffs, while the average RFL-YA scores were higher than clinical cutoffs.
