Independent EM bioremediation, MA phytoremediation and symbiotic MA-EM bioremediation mode for the removal of ammonia and phosphorus were elucidated successfully in this study. Inoculations of EM-1 in the MA phytoremediation enhance the symbiotic MA-EM culture condition in term of dissolved oxygen and pH regulation. Higher removal rates were observed in various inoculation of MA in the symbiotic MA-EM bioremediation with the addition of EM. In addition, the release of phosphorus due to the degradation of bioremediators at the end of treatment period was suspended within the symbiotic MA-EM bioremediation mode. Symbiotic MA-EM bioremediation however were insignificant as compared to MA phytoremediation mode in term of the ammonia removal curve and reduction rate.
