For each learning area or mathematical topic, the syllabus was organized and spelled out in detail into
the following five columns: (a) learning objectives that defined clearly what should be taught, (b)
suggested teaching and learning activities that listed some examples and activities, (c) learning
outcomes that defined specifically what pupils should be able to do, (d) points to note where attention
was drawn to the more significant aspects of mathematical concepts and skills, and (e) vocabulary
consisting of standard mathematical terms and instructional words and phrases relevant when structuring
activities, asking questions, and setting tasks.
