I have been in the Kingdom of Thailand for over 5 months now. The experience has been very positive for both my family and I. Everyone has been warm and helpful as I learn what I must do to be part of the community and part of the Chevron organization here in Bangkok. 2014 has been a very educational and rewarding year for me. I find that at the end of each year, I reflect over my experiences in the past twelve months, and take time to contemplate what I will do differently in the next year. As I look forward to 2015, I am thinking of what challenges lie ahead and what can I do to make 2015 successful for me, my family, and Chevron.
In the US, there was a football coach by the name of Vince Lombardi, who was quite successful. Coach Lombardi coined the phrase, “The definition of luck is when preparation meets opportunity.” I believe in that motto. THE CTEP organization has many things of which to be proud. There were stellar accomplishments in 2014 in a number of areas. We have seen significant growth and development of our people. We have seen great improvements in the design and execution of our wells in both completions and drilling that put us at the forefront of efficiency while executing safely. We are laying the groundwork to be even more successful in 2015. Our biggest opportunity for improvement is not hurting our people, as we experienced 4 DAFW incidents in 2014. Four of our co-workers were not able to return to their normal job duties the next day. We must do everything we can to prevent incidents of that severity from recurring in the future. 2015 will bring us our share of challenges, as we work through this period of low crude prices. We will be asked to manage our costs and cycle time even more astutely in this environment. We must stay focused on the job at hand and ensure we do not compromise the well being of our co-workers and not violate the Tenets of Operation process safety.
In preparation for the challenges of 2015, we are working on a few key objectives. We are constructing a Leadership Accountability program that will enhance our safety performance and people development. Details will be forthcoming in 2015. Also, 2015 will bring the advent of WellSafe. While many of you have heard about WellSafe, it will become a reality in 2015. Much work and planning has been put forth, as we move toward implementation. Everyone in D&C and many members of the Asset Teams will be involved in the WellSafe process. To support the objectives of WellSafe, it is imperative that we increase the quality of our Risk Assessments, RUMS sessions, and hazard identification, especially in SIMOPs scenarios. The Well Factory Optimization process will see some change as we strive to find the optimal balance of well construction efficiency, production, and reserves replacement. It is critical that we honor the MOC process to ensure our safety, environmental protection, and capital stewardship in all our projects. Capturing and recording MOCs will also give us the data to assess our performance and clarify future objectives.
So as you prepare for the opportunities that lie ahead in 2015, don’t underestimate your impact on people, especially your co-workers, to shape and determine our “luck”. Provide constructive, candid feedback. Be willing to employ “Stop Work Authority” in both the office and the field. Do not hesitate to seek clarification or explanation of why we are making a decision. Balance near and long term impact and drivers to determine the best decisions we can make. I am very proud to be part of the team in CTEP. I look forward to working with each of you to make 2015 one of our best years ever.
