absorption at 3100 cm-1 and 3200 cm-1 which are probably related to O-H stretching or
combination modes
and at 6668 cm-1 to U5+. Absorption in the 1,400-2,000 cm-1 interval is
probably related to Si-O stretching which still indicate a well crystalline zircon
The FTIR absorption spectra of those zircon samples after heat-treatment at 900KC.
show a similar pattern (see Appendix C). The spectra recorded before and after heattreatment
of some samples are compared in Figures 4.9 and 4.10. As seen in those figures, the
spectra before and after heat-treatment similarly show absorption peaks at 3100 and 3200cm-1
due to O-H stretching. However, the peaks at 3100 and 3200 cm-1 before treatment do not
consistently have stronger absorption as compared to that after heat treatment
(see also Appendix C) .
