As raw water is pumped to the plant from one of 54 wells throughout the City, the new membrane softening process treats approximately two-thirds, while one-third is treated by lime softening. The treated water is then blended to provide the finished product. Treating a large percentage of the flow via the membrane softening process surpasses regulatory requirements by removing more than 90 percent of the organic material, producing clear, colorless water.
Now, as the largest operational membrane softening process facility in the world, the water treatment plant at the Utility Services complex is providing Boca Raton residents and customers with regulatory-compliant, high-quality water today and far into the future.
