Allowing for comparisons across 160 countries, the LPI is used by companies to identify
challenges and opportunities related to the receiving country’s transport infrastructure, logistics
competence, and availability of efficient supply chains. In this context, the LPI is a useful indicator of
the host country’s trade logistics performance and also a benchmark when choosing locations for
various types of operation. This is one of the main reasons why countries tend to focus on their
ranking rather than on improvements in actual indicator values of the LPI.
