Various stories in popular Buddhism show us how Guanyin exemplifies the principle of compassion.
For instance, there is the story of a boy named Shancai (Sudhana in Sanskrit) who became a devotee of Guanyin.
This boy had a disability that it made it difficult for him to walk.
Nonetheless, he wanted to study the Buddhist dharma, and so with much effort he came to Guanyin on the island where she had been meditating.
