On the auspicious occasion of the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne, the Cabinet resolved on 21 November 2006 to present His Majesty the King with the honourable designation of “The Father of Thai Invention”. The decision was taken in agreement with the NRCT and other related associations, so as to honour His Majesty’s genius and spread appreciation of it among interested parties and the public.
It comes as no surprise that His Majesty the King has been presented with this designation as his undoubted genius as an inventor is well-known both among his people and internationally. His Majesty the King has set a rare example for the world in sacrificing his personal time for the Thai people in this and many other ways. His Majesty has laid down various concepts and guidelines for inventing all manner of things that are of great value to the Thai people. For example, His Majesty invented the Chaipattana Aerator after clearly seeing how the problem of polluted water in canals and other public water sources affected the people’s well-being.
“His Majesty the King granted the mechanical aerator model and directed the Chaipattana Foundation to provide budgetary support for research efforts in connection with the information with a view to increasing the level of oxygen in water and decreasing water pollution,” noted Dr.Sumet Tantivejakul, Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation.
“In the initial stage, His Majesty the King introduced a pilot-model of the Chaipattana Aerator at Bawornnives Wihan Temple. The pilot worked so well it led to on-going development and applications in several areas. This shows His Majesty the King’s genius for developing key concepts in ways that are simple enough for them to be widely applied while at the same time bringing about remarkable results. This can only happen because of His Majesty’s great erudition with his amazing command of the full range of relevant aspects of each issue,” Dr.Sumet added.
The Chaipattana Aerator is a floating device that efficiently increases oxygen evacuation. The device is particularly suited to areas where tidal water is polluted. Besides treating polluted water, it also oxygenates water in ponds used for rearing aquatic animals, marking it an invaluable invention for agriculturalists.
In light of His Majesty the King’s invention of Chaipattana Aerator, the Department of Intellectual Property, the Ministry of Commerce, patented the device and presented this patent to His Majesty the King on 2 February 1993.
International recognition of His Majesty the King’s genius for invention came with His Majesty’s receipt of the “Gold Invention Award” presented by the Belgian Chamber of Inventors at the Eureka Exhibition held in Brussels in 2000. The organizers of the event honoured His Majesty the King’s capability in recognition of the Chaipattana Aerator’s tremendous value in the field of water treatment. Subsequently, His Majesty the King made a gift of a Chaipattana Aerator to Belgium and the aerator was duly installed at Woluve Sainte-Pierre park in the middle of Brussels where it has since been much admired by knowledgeable persons and the public alicke.
In addition to the Chaipattana Aerator, His Majesty the King invented a computer program for Devanagari characters-or “Pasa Khaek”- for the purpose of furthering education in this important field. His Majesty also invented a concept for building a comprehensive garbage eradication which not only incinerates garbage but produces ash that can be used for construction as well as producing electricity from the gas that is created inside the garbage pit. His Majesty has also introduced a mist collector which provides effective support for reforestation efforts in highland areas by helping to solve regional water shortages.
“The fact that His Majesty the King holds a patent for such an important invention provides an outstanding example for Thai inventors, inspiring them to continue in their efforts to invent all manner of things which will be beneficial to the country in the knowledge that the rights to their inventions will be protected, ” Dr. Sumet concluded.
