Mutton bird breast meat contains a high amount of fat but the
main fatty acids were of the monounsaturated type. Despite
Mutton birds being raised on a marine diet, their meat contained
low amounts of v3 PUFA but the ratio of v3/v6 is better than meat
from land animals. The high concentrations of cholesterol may also
be of concern. Consumption of Mutton bird meat is regarded as a
delicacy and not a regular daily food item. The information
presented in this study suggests that MBBM is a nutritionally-
dense food but its consumption needs to be carefully considered
because of its high cholesterol content.
