experimental specimens. There was no apparent difference in
the feeding duration between vaccinated and control rabbits. The
body weight of engorged female ticks on rabbits immunized with
r-voraxin was 42.7% lighter, compared to the control rabbit. A
decrease in the oviposition rate was also observed in ticks collected
from r-voraxin-vaccinated rabbits. All of live ticks detached from
the control rabbit laid viable eggs, while 38.6% of ticks (17/44 ticks)
detached from vaccinated rabbits did not lay eggs. The weight
of eggs was significantly reduced by r-voraxin immunization
(85.1±15.9 mg, n = 44) compared to the control (193.4±31.1 mg,
n = 15).
