Culture samples of C. muelleri were centrifuged and lyophilized to determine proximal composition ( AOAC, 1995). Proximal SPM composition was determined accordingly ( Table 1). Available energy was calculated using the energy conversion factors 18.0, 35.2 and 17.2 kJ/g dry weight for protein, lipid and carbohydrate, respectively ( Baukema and De Buin, 1979).
