The liger is a large member of the cat family which results from the breeding of a male lion and a female tiger. This particular combination produces an offspring dominant limonitic features and recessive tiger features. If the opposite occurs, female lion and a male tiger, the results would produce a more tigeristic creature known as a tigon. Both hybrid cats are members of the genus Panthera. There is no scientific name assigned to this animal because of it is human assisted ancestory.
A liger looks like a giant lion with muted stripes but like thier tiger ancestors, ligers like water and are good swimmers. This is against the nature of a lion but is one of the things which makes this creature special. It gets the best of both parents. That is not always the case though with crossbreeds. Sometimes the results go the other way and the animal gets the worst of both parents.
