As leaders, you know that information is a valuable Chevron asset. But over the years we have seen an exponential rise in digital debris in our data storage. It is becoming harder to search and find what we need amid the clutter of redundant, obsolete and trivial (ROT) information. ROT also poses legal risk and introduces cybersecurity vulnerabilities. An estimated one percent of organizational information is subject to legal hold and only five percent is maintained in an official system of record. Only 25 percent of the information we store meets a business need and the remaining 69 percent has no legal or business value. We are calling on your leadership to promote good information management behavior at Chevron by eliminating ROT.
