The use of Streptomyces phage significantly (P < 0.05) reduced
the number of SA on the isolation plates from 5.5 to
2.6 log 10 cfu g dry soil ?1 with a concurrent significant increase
(P < 0.05) in the number of NSA from 1.6 to 3.5 log 10
cfu g dry soil ?1 . Actinoplanes, Micromonospora, Microbispora,
Nocardia, Rhodococcus and Streptoverticillium spp. were readily
isolated by this technique.
