The educators used video clips
(such as a scene from The Wizard of Oz) to introduce the idea of “the chemistry behind everyday
objects” (p. 48). Inspired by the video clips, students then chose an everyday object that they were
interested in (further strengthening the connection between the content and their daily lives),
conducted research on the chemical composition of that object, and created visual presentations
(another form of media) to share with their classmates.
