In this paper, the author determined the organic matter, total N, rapidly available P, rapidly available K, available Fe, available Zn, available Mn and available Cu contents of 875 soil samples from 36 silkworm eggs production farms in Jiangsu Province by chemical analysis. There was remarkble difference of soil fertility between upper layer (0~20 cm) and lower layer (20~40 cm), the contents of organic matter, total N, rapidly available P, rapidly available K, available Fe, available Zn, available Mn and available Cu in upper layer (0~20 cm) were higher than those in lower layer (20~40 cm), and the range of relative difference was 14 5%~53 8%. There was markedly difference of soil fertility among different areas, the order of soil fertility in different region is as follows: Taihu Lake areaYancheng area and Ning-Zhen-Yang hilly areaJianghuai area and North of Huai River area, and there is a possibility of Fe-deficiency in Yancheng area and Zn-deficiency in Jianghuai area and North of Huai River area.
