Regarding water-saving behaviour, eight different aspects are analysed: (1) recycling water; (2) keeping a bottle of water in the fridge to have cool water; (3) thawing food in advance of use; (4) filling the kitchen sink(s) before washing up; (5) using the dishwasher and the washer machine at full load; (6) (semi) closing the stopcock to reduce the flow to taps; (7) turning off the tap while brushing one’s teeth or soaping, and (8) showering instead of bathing. Table 1 shows a descriptive analysis of the eight water-saving behaviours included in this paper. As Table 1 indicates, some water-saving habits are widely adopted by Spaniards. This is the case with “Showering instead of bathing” (96.6%), “Turning off the tap while brushing one’s teeth or soaping” (90.6%), “Thawing food in advance of use” (86.4%), “Using the dishwasher and the washer machine at full load” (81.5%) and “Keeping a bottle of water in the fridge to have cool water” (62.3%). On the contrary, behaviours such as “(Semi) closing the stopcock to reduce the flow to taps” and, especially, “Recycling water” are not widely followed by Spanish citizens (only 28.6% and 21.2%, respectively). In order to analyse those aspects influencing water-saving behaviour, several variables have been considered. In particular, the following factors are considered: environmental awareness, involvement of citizens in activities related to the environment, ecological attitude, ways of using devices (dishwasher and washing machine) and availability of water saving devices. In addition some socio-demographical aspects are included: gender, household size, income and occupation. Table 2 shows items used to measure all the constructs and their reliability (Cronbach’s alpha)
