potassium persulfate (100 mM) and a solution containing
potassium iodide (1000 μM) and ascorbic acid (100 μM). A
portion of the mixture was transferred into a 1 cm quartz cell at
the same temperature. The cell was tapped to dislodge any air
bubbles and then placed in the sample beam of a Shimadzu
1650 UV−visible spectrophotometer. The wavelength λ was set
at 352 nm (see Figure 2), which is where triiodide strongly
