The objective of this research is to examine the effects of strategic focus through e-commerce-based operations on performance of e-commerce businesses in Thailand. Moreover, this study also investigates the mediating influence of customer responsiveness and customer acceptance. It indicates that information technology experience, customer awareness, competitive Knowledge, and market need for Internet-based service were antecedent of strategic focus through e-commerce-based operations. In addition, competitive environment and technology turbulence are the moderating variables of the research. Data was collected from e-commerce businesses in Thailand. The sample of this dissertation is chosen from the Thai e-commerce web site totaling 1,450 firms registered until Mar 2009 with the Department of Business Development, Thailand. The Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) regression analysis is used to test all hypotheses in this dissertation. Additionally, in this dissertation, the conceptual model has many constructs developed from new scales and multiple scale items derived from literature reviews. Thus, a pre-test is conducted to ensure validity and reliability of questionnaire.
The results of this dissertation show that strategic focus through e-commerce-based operations has directly and indirectly significant positive influences on e-commerce performance via customer responsiveness and customer acceptance as the mediators. Moreover, information technology experience, customer acceptance as the mediators. Moreover, information technology experience, customer awareness. Competitive Knowledge, and market need for Internet-based service have positive effects on strategic focus through e-commerce-based operations. However, moderating effects, competitive and technology turbulence have partial moderators of strategic focus through e-commerce –based operations-customer responsiveness and strategic focus through e-commerce-based operation-customer acceptance relationships. The results of this research will provide the direction and suggestion for e-commerce businesses in Thailand to improve strategic focus through e-commerce-based operations and e-commerce performance of e-businesses in Thailand.
