Research paper/ thesis… i'll admit now i have no idea about the structure of either in terms of how one approaches a topic.
Thesis
I think you need a clearer way to state that a single gay individual has got the same rights as a single straight individual… however when the gay individual seeks official recognition as part of a couple is when the discrimination based on sexual orientation begins. common aims and wishes of life partners are marriage, house, 2.5 kids.
[I'm not sure but i think a gay individual can adopt on his/her own?]
Intro
Don't mention your friends in the way you have… it's not a particularly good reason to justify a college paper i.m.o Its an interesting topic in terms of a modern civil rights debate where every minority and majority is represented, religious, race, sex, economic status, education…etc brought to your attention by LGBT individuals. I also think you need to clarify what rights exactly are at stake, constitutional rights, human rights, civil rights or LGBT rights [what exactly are lgbt rights]… as far as i can tell we don't have any special rights, so the government is not violating anything it is however failing to meet it's responsibilities to include it's lgbt citizens… american constitutional rights? life liberty and the pursuit of happiness but only if you do so our way…
bground
i think you need to explore the different forms of adoption…. second parent adoption… non bio adoption … foreign adoption … local adoption… who is allowed do what.
What are the rights granted by adoption… next of kin, medical power of attorney, inheritance status...
Pros… the government needs to recognise that the image of a family as a mom, dad and baby does not reflect modern society. Kids are being raised by grand parents, by extended family, foster family, the state, single parents. divorced parents, inter racial couples, unmarried parents, parents who are still minors, older siblings… a family with two gay parents is no better or worse than any other. What is family?
Cons; is a gay household the ideal and best possible home and second chance for a kid who already has had to deal with issues of abandonment or rejection from their bio parents. will a gay household make them social targets. If mental health issues are statistically high in the LGBT community will this somehow negatively impact the child. lack of statistics on the relative success of long term relationships in the lgbt community without the legal bounds of marriage are we more likely to leave the family home?
