In this poem by Christopher Marlowe, the poet describes the invitation by a poor shepherd to a nymph he desires. He starts by offering her the beauty of nature and his companionship. Next he offers her the beauty of flowers, roses and posies. Then he offers her clothing made from natural things, a cap, a girdle, a gown, slippers, and a belt. Everything he offers her, cost the shepherd nothing, because they are found in nature. Also, the things he offers her will eventually change or become old, and decay.
