A decrease in PaO2 below ten kPa is a typical
symptom in patients with VAP. In our sample neither
the relationship between the decrease in PaO2 below
ten kPa and the type of suction system (Pearson´s
chi-square = 6.142; p = 0.189), nor the relationship
between the length of hospitalisation, a decrease in
PaO2 below ten kPa and the type of suctioning were
confirmed (Pearson´s chi-square = 6.561; p = 0.161).
