Sometimes my life is a little difficult and I feel sad or negative. Then I think about my mother. She worked hard all of her life. She lived in difficult times, but she always had a positive attitude.
My mother was born in a poor family. There were six children to feed. Everyone worked. Her father worked for the railroad. Her mother washed people's clothes. My mother worked in factories. She wanted to go to college, but she also wanted to help her family. In the 1940s, she drove trucks and worked as a secretary. She saved her money and started college classes. She finished two years of college.
Then my mother married my father and they had a child. My mother stopped college, but she did not give up her dream. She taught elementary school part-time and saved her money.
In the 1960s, my mother started college part-time. She took college classes in the evening and on weekends. During the day, she worked. She graduated from college at the age of 52. She taught elementary school full-time for 13 years and then retired.
I am very proud of my mother. She worked hard and never gave up. She had a positive attitude and everything worked out. My daughter and my son love hearing her tell her wonderful stories.
