In the recent news of a security vulnerability in all 32-bit Windows Operating Systems (this is not applicable to 64-bit versions), it was identified that the best means to prevent this attack was by disabling the ability for your computer to run 16-bit applications. It’s Windows ability to run these applications which contains a means by which an attacker can inject any program of their choosing. Microsoft has not released a patch for this vulnerability as of yet, though has stated they are looking into it.
