SRI Education performed a meta-analysis of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation funded postsecondary courseware related projects. The review was conducted Spring 2014. Of the 137 courses analyzed, 7 were from the Adapted Learning Market Acceleration Program (ALMAP). The effect size of the ALMAP impact on course completion rates was slightly positive but close to zero. Similarly, the effect size of the ALMAP impact on final examination scores or course grades was slightly positive but also close to zero. One overall observation by SRI was that mastery learning approaches in mathematics courses were associated with improved learning outcomes but not with course completion rates (Means, Peters, & Zheng, 2014).
