Knowledge of Stroke Symptoms
Of the 287 responders, 203 (70.7%) knew at least 1 symptom of stroke. In all, 191 patients (66.6%) identified the stroke symptom ‘‘numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg’’ and 131 (45.6%) the stroke symptom ‘‘confu- sion or trouble speaking or understanding speech,’’ whereas 123 (42.9%) were able to identify both symptoms of stroke. Only 48 patients (16.7%) knew the 3 FAST elements ‘‘facial weakness,’’ ‘‘arm weakness,’’ and ‘‘speech disturbance’’.
