The findings of a meta-analysis and meta-regression of
44 randomised controlled trials indicated that the optimal
exercise program for preventing falls is one that contains the
following three elements: exercises that provide a high challenge
to balance, exercise of a high dose, and no walking
program. This combination of factors resulted in a significant
42% reduction in the rate of falls (adjusted pooled rate
ratio = 0.58, 95% confidence interval 0.48–0.69)
