In particular, PDGF-BB supplementation was found to be
a promising target to increase overall CG scaffold bioactivity for
tendon tissue engineering applications. Future work will explore
additional soluble factors and exploit surface immobilization
techniques to identify combinations of contact guidance cues and
biomolecule supplementation that improve TC gene expression
and matrix biosynthesis. The materials developed here are also
likely to be useful as 3D templates for a range of anisotropic tissues,
including ligament and cardiac tissue.
