, the Agency has separately funded
a major prospective study of the prevalence of individual food allergies
among UK children, using a series of whole population cohorts
recruited on the Isle of Wight and using gold standard methodologies
to determine sensitisation and clinical allergy to foods among
the children. That study has delivered robust data on the prevalence
of allergies to all of the main allergenic foods across the full age
range of children from birth to 16 years of age (Pereira et al., 2005;
Venter et al., 2006, 2008),
