A multi-methodical approach based on surveying and mapping (geology,
geomorphology, vegetation, archaeological sites), remote sensing (land-cover classification) and GIS analysis
(slope, aspect, hydrologic surface analysis) was therefore applied (Siart and Eitel 2007). Our data were
integrated into a GIS for modelling the settlement patterns of the investigation area in order to specify the
significance of the archaeological studies and to improve the standardised methods within GIS and
geoarchaeology.
