The term agglomeration encompasses a variety of unit
operations and process techniques, as, for example, froth
flotation, flocculation and binder-induced agglomeration. In
the latter technique, a binder is sprayed on to the particles
to form lens-shaped liquid bridges that hold the colliding
particles together. Typically, binder-induced agglomeration
is performed in a mixer where the surrounding medium is
in the gaseous phase (usually air). However, processes also
exist in which particles are dispersed in a liquid medium
(water), and an immiscible binder (oil) is used to form the
bridges
