Colin Minihan and Stuart Ortiz are the Vicious Brothers, who in 2011 co-created a well-received shoestring shocker called Grave Encounters. Now they’ve shuffled the pack of sci-fi-horror cliches and dealt out another hand. A bunch of attractive young people go to spend the weekend at … a cabin in the woods. After the well-known film of that title, co-written by Joss Whedon, playfully deconstructed these tropes, you might think that particular cinematic well was bone dry. And so it is. But Minihan and Ortiz trundle out the same old storyline: creepy things in the woods, camcorder found footage – and abductions by aliens who prove that everything you’ve heard about their anatomical-exploratory procedures is 100% correct.
