Thailand's tourism resources may not be sufficient to serve growth in foreign visitor numbers in the near future, says the Bank of Thailand.
The central bank is not worried about tourism demand, as foreign tourist arrivals are rising in line with global tourism trends. But the supply side such as tourism infrastructure and human resources will face a shortage.
"Thailand is the top tourist destination in Asean, generating the highest tourism revenue in the region," said Don Nakornthab, the director of macroeconomic policy at the Bank of Thailand.
"But it still has weak points such as tourist safety, a workforce shortage and insufficient infrastructure."
The UN World Tourism Organisation forecasts international tourist arrivals will grow by 3-4% globally this year.
