5.1.2. Test no. 2
Table 3 specifies the set of tests that were conducted in order to represent particular situations such as the joining of a new network service (as shown in Fig. 5). The aim of conducting test no. 2 was to determine the amount of time it takes for a new service to join the network, and the variation of this time with the type of service being added. It is worthwhile noting that in test no.1, we determined the time taken by a Zeroconf client to discover services that were already advertised in a Zeroconf network. To determine these service discovery times, we added two more laptops (Linux and Windows) to our initial testbed. Our tests indicate that the time to discover a newly added service is considerably longer than the already discovered services. Furthermore, since laptops 3 and 4 join the network after a while, the time gap between the discovery of services and the advertisement of new ones further increases the time to the whole discovery process.
