Here’s a heads-up to you guys on a new global mandate on paper bag standards across the globe. This was just made known to us during the Retail Director’s meeting last week that the guidelines are mandatory.
The specs in short is intended to ensure all our paper bags across retail and franchise outlets are consistent in design, sizes and also quality. The focus and push is on sustainability.
The implications on our end as follows:
• Global guidelines will need to be adhered and implemented no later than April-refer to ppt
• Quality and requirements specified may lead to a higher cost. This is so in most largest markets like China, Kore, HK. Taiwan managed to get a cost reduction
• Factory outlets will need to use paper bags going forward
As you scroll and read the correspondence, you will realize we are working on very tight timelines to get this sorted. Possibilities on future sourcing will be 1)an APAC order via Taiwan which at the moment is most feasible from a cost perspective from what we hear but delivery and storage will need to be considered 2) consolidated SEA order 3) local order.
I seek all your help to use the specs provided and to try to get quotes in your own local market while we are also doing the same in SG exploring the possibility of either a local source or a SEAPAC solution if available. I ask that you provide us with your expected quantities for the following bag sizes for us to do a SEAPAC quote in hopes of bringing the costs down further for further comparison and evaluation. In essence of time, please get back to me no later than Dec 9 Wed on your quantities based on the templated below.
Due to this new direction, I urge you to start depleting paper stock and have sufficient bags to last through April.
