Halloween means hallow's eve, or evening-eve of All Hallows or All Saints. It is date noted on the calendar of both the Roman Catholic Church and the Anglican (Protestant Episcopal) Church in memory of the holy ones of all days whose names are known only to God.
Old superstitions and customs make the celebration of Halloween colorful.Black cats, ghosts, witches, and jack-o'-lanterns are associated with this night. The Irish have an old tale about the origin of jack-o'-lanterns. A man by the name of Jack was not permitted to enter heaven because he was too stingy and because he had played practical jokes on the devil. So he walks the earth with his lantern until Judgment Day.
The Druids believed that on this eve, ghosts. fairies, spirits, elves, and witches appeared to harm people. They considered cats sacred, because they claimed that cats had once been human beings who were changed into cats as punishment for evil deeds.
