Piping systems are to be designed so as to be free from stress due to deflection or ship's structure, ship loading etc.

Suitable expansion joints are to be fitted on all lines which are subject to high thermal expansion, such as exhaust gas pipes of diesel engines and similar systems.
The arrangement of all piping is to be satisfactory for the service intended, and special consideration is to be given to prevent formation of air pockets. Drainage valves or cocks are to be arranged where necessary.
