Estrous behaviors
A GLM ANOVA was used to determine if estrus intensity (total points
received) differed between lameness scores. The model included the fixed
factors of lameness (nonlame/moderately lame/severely lame), prior fertility
treatment (yes/no), season (summer/winter), where estrus was observed (inside
cubicle house/outside on grass) and the day postpartum estrus was observed
(20–60 or 60–80+days postpartum). Pearson correlations were used to assess
the relationship between total points and estradiol concentrations on the day of
observed estrus (Day 0) or maximum estradiol concentrations. To determine if
the frequencies of each behavioral sign of estrus differed between lameness
scores, GLM ANOVAwith fixed factors of lameness and prior fertility treatment
was used.
