Nobody knew when the temple was built. Some said that Phayadam, who was a king from Myanmar, moved the troops into Chiang Mai city for destroying and embattled in this area. Some also said that Phayadam's wife or Phramae Umaree was a goddess (a female deity) who protected Maejo University. The temple was built and abandoned. It was later restored by Luang PorYot and also abandoned. The temple was named Nong Ubosot because it was built in the middle of a swamp, after that it was abandoned and the chapel was sunk into the depth of the swamp and only the top of the chapel could be seen.
In 1957, Phra Kasem came here to do meditation for 7 days and Phra Dum from Wat Maekatnoy also came here. On 9th April 1981, two monks, Phra Sruang and Phra Mon, came to practice the dharma at Wat Nong Ubosot. Later villagers rebuilt the temple with the strength of Buddhist faith. There have been monks in the temple since 20th February 1982.
The First renovation was done by Phra Yot. The date of restoration is unknown. The second restoration was on February 20th, 1982. Now, there are 12 monks that stay in the temple.
