Several researchers have shown that tissues of various plants grown in a tropical and subtropical climate contain high concentrations of nutrients and natural phytochemicals; phenolics and flavonoids (Hout et al., 2006; Adewuyi, Prasad, Rao, & Oderinde, 2010).
In view of the growing interest in these compounds, there is a need to identify and quantify these important compounds in tropical/ exotic fruits to evaluate their nutritional value and health benefits.
However, there is no literature available on the chemical composition of Spondias pinnata (peel, pulp and seed) for their use as a valuable source of functional food.
