andverifiedbyexperimentalmeasurements.Asthenumericalmodelisprovenreliable,numericalexperimentationisthenconductedto homogenizethehardnessdistributionofabrakedisctoobtainbettercastingquality.TheOldfield’smodelwasadoptedtosimulatethe nucleationandgraingrowthduringsolidificationofthecasting.Acalibrationbrakedisccastingwasfirstmade.Bycomparingthehardnessof thecalibrationbrakedisccastingwiththesimulatedresultsusingdifferentnucleationandgrowthcoefficientsðAe;BeÞinOldfield’smodel,the mostappropriatesetofvaluesforAeandBewasobtained.Then,thissetofvalueswasappliedtothehardnesssimulationofatestbrakedisc castingandconfirmedbyexperimentalmeasurements.Throughthisapproach,asetofnucleationandgrowthcoefficientswasobtainedforthe brakedisccasting.Subsequently,numericalsimulationswereconductedforthebrakedisccastingwithdifferentshake-outtimestoevaluateits distributionofhardnessandanoptimizedshake-outtimewasthenproposedbasedonthesimulatedresults
