Until recently the sequential model was applied mainly to instrumental learning. While instrumental situations will be considered in this report, the emphasis is on applying the sequential view to a variety of Pavlovian phenomena. A major proposition in this connection is that a step forward in understanding a wide variety of Pavlovian phenomena is to assume that the functional stimulussignaling the US consists of the conditioned stimuli (CS) plus the memory of some reinforcement outcome, such as SR (CS+SR) or SN (CS+SN). This assumption cannot be overemphasized.
