To date, the mechanistic basis of disease-induced inhibition of
photosynthesis and the relationship between photosynthetic
processes and disease resistance is unclear. The decrease in the
net photosynthetic rate of infected leaves has been attributed to
stomatal closure caused by disease-induced water stress, and/or
disruption in the metabolic pathways of photosynthesis, such as
the reduction in the activity of Rubisco (Pinto et al., 2000; Saeed
et al., 1999). This study aimed to further investigate how banana
Fusarium wilt disease affects the photosynthetic characteristics of
banana leaves, to identify the relationship between photosynthesis-related
factors and host defense responses.
