Proper training of dental clinic staff on the risks of handling mercury and on good practice such as wearing appropriate protective clothing (gloves, masks, aprons, leg protectors, etc.) should be undertaken in each dental clinic. Recommended procedures for cleaning of mercury spills should be applied (UNDP/GEF, 2010), spill kits should be available in each dental clinic using elemental mercury, and amalgam waste should be collected and stored in labelled closed containers before proper disposal.
