Lesson VOC 1
Task: Prepare to leave for work.
Prerequisites: ADT 1, ADT 4—ADT 6, ADT 100 (or ADT 101), COG 6, COG 75 Concept: Although mastery of basic dressing, eating, and bathing types of skills are very helpful for achieving this skill, these abilities arc not critical to the concept of preparing for work. Fundamental skills with attending to task, understanding different objects and which ones are different or go together, and some time telling/date concepts are probably needed, which is why the particular prerequisites have been chosen. The specific activities taught will depend on the specific needs of the student and the type of work to be performed.
Behavioral Objective: When an identified time occurs on identified days where preparing for work should reasonably start, the student will indicate or participate in the identified activities needed to prepare to go to work to a 90% accuracy level for 20 trials.
Materials: Items needed to prepare for work to include personal hygiene items, clothing, a clock, and a calendar.
Task Analysis:
1. Discuss or review with the student the activities that need to be performed prior to going to work. Attempt to reach agreement with the student as to what these activities are.
2. Review date and time concepts with the student (see prerequisites ..)T 100 or ADT 101, and COG 75) that relate to getting ready for work. If reasonable, attempt to reach agreement on how the student will monitor this aspect.
3. At the appropriate time to get ready for work, go to the student and verbally prompt him or her through the processes determined in Steps 1 and 2.
4. Continue Step 3, reducing reminders of date and time until the student can recognize and identify the need to begin the process without any prompting.
5. Continue Step 4, adding the activities needed to actually prepare for work. Reduce prompting until none is needed.
