Because of the intertwined link between care and
research in the clinical research process, clinical
research nurses must continually balance the requirements
of the study with the clinical needs of individual
participants.7-11 This balance between clinical and
research priorities is essential to the ethical implementation
of clinical studies as well as the consistency,
accuracy, and efficiency of data collection.12 Ultimately,
achieving and maintaining this balance may be
a significant factor in the participant’s perception of the
integrity of the entire clinical research enterprise.
